A Person Who Has Made a Difference: Chien-Ming Wang

Chien-Ming Wang was born on March 31, 1980, and lived in Tainan city, Taiwan. He is a famous Taiwanese starting pitcher for New York Yankees in MLB. Originally, he joined the basketball team when he was in elementary school, but by chance, his instructor encouraged him to play baseball. Wang has represented the Chinese Taipei national baseball teams during his student days, and his excellent performance have come into international notice. On June 5, 2000, Wang was formally contracted by the New York Yankees, to start his difficult and arduous live of a professional baseball player in American. In the beginning, he has even considered to give up halfway, because the problem of injury has always been affecting his performance in pitch. But thanks the support and encouragement by his wife, he changed his mind and continued to strive for his dream. After six years of effort, Wang finally won 19th games in 2006 season. It is the best record in MLB for a pitcher of Asia nationality. Therefore, Wang has been idolized in Taiwan. Because of this popularity, he was named in “The TIME 100” magazine for 2007–2008. Subsequently, it became a great chance for the world to know the Taiwan through Chien-Ming Wang. He is the pride of Taiwan.
