Happy New Year 2011

It is the last week of 2010. Now is one of the busiest times of the year for our company also. In order to welcome New Year 2011, the government is hosting a series of New Year celebrations on December 31st, 2010. Still, Taipei will have a magnificent firework show display at Taipei 101. I have heard that this year’s firework show will be grander than last year due to it is the Taiwanese 100th anniversary. However, I will not go to the New Year’s Eve celebration at Taipei 101 this year, because I hate go to the MRT station with the crowds of people after it’s over. So I have already decided to go to my friend’s home on New Year’s Eve. She invited several close friends to her party. We are planning to have a party of spicy hot pot for New Year countdown, and we will have a game of gift exchange. Also, we can just enjoy firework show from the roof of their building. I believe it will be an unforgettable experience for me.

My Parents

My farther and my mother, they are two of the most important people in my family. They actually take good care of us. Even when we were grown up and have children of our own, my parents will care us as long as they live. Honestly, I always argue with my mother about some things when I am upset. I know I must remain respectful and keep my voice calm even if I am upset, but I usually out of control. Although I am busy with my job and homework, but it is important that I should spend time talk to my parents every day, do not just staying in the same place. Little sweet thing might make them feel comfortable. I really love my parents so much!

A Fraud through MSN

A few days ago, some friends told me why I requested them to buy the online game card through MSN? When I also start to play online game? I am so confused at that time. After checking, my MSN account was stolen. I don't believe that I was the victim of online fraud: phishing. Luckily no one was remitted before they called to me. To avoid harming more friends, I have changed my MSN account name and password immediately. Phishing is fake websites pretend to work for real companies. They send MSN messages to many people. They trick people to login a fraudulent website and give out their personal information. Then the thieves use the information to commit identity theft. The experience has made me more aware of the dangers of phishing. I don't trust strange messages and websites anymore!

Shopping Online

Nowadays, shopping online has become a popular way to shop. If you don’t have enough time to choose a gift for Christmas, it is a good way to shop for products on Yahoo, PC home, and other big online stores. You can buy anything whatever you want. You just only click your mouse at home, then the goods you bought will arrived within several days.Shopping online is not only save your time, but also is very convenient and speed. Luckily, maybe you can save much money if you choose shopping online. The reason is that most of goods online are very cheaper than product in real shops. Of course, I also bought some products through this way such as clothes, shoes and handbags. These shopping experiences are comfortable for me. It is easy to search prices and to compare with different online stores. However, I usually choose a reliable vendor and make sure the website is safe before I bid for the goods.

A Terrible Dream I Had

A few days ago, I had a very terrible dream. Usually I am difficult to remember the clear dreams but I was impressed by the horrible dream. The thought of it makes me feel scared, but I do not understand its meaning. The dream was about missing teeth. It happened while I had a meal. It seems like I was chewing guava or apple, but suddenly my teeth were missed. The main reason I scared this dream was I must go to school next day, so I do not know how to face classmates. However, I was roused by the terrible dream! From then on, I tried my hardest to brush and floss my teeth, especially I plan to visit my dentist this weekend.

A Visit to The Flora Expo

The Taipei International Flora Expo, which is the perfect opportunity for Taiwan to showed to the world. Some pavilions are very popular, people have to go early in the morning and get the reservation tickets. It will be a lot of people waiting in line whenever you want to go. Last week, my cousin visited Taipei. We used the occasion to visit the Flora Expo. When we arrived at Xinsheng Park where the Pavilion of Dreams is located and which I wanted to see most. I could not believe what I see. The long lines of people were stuck at the entrance, it is longer than the queues at Disneyland. So we decided not to join the long lines to enter the pavilion because we had other plans in the evening. I was a bit disappointed, honestly. However, I will plan to visit again during winter vacation.

A Korean Restaurant

Last Friday, my supervisor invited us to have lunch. I recommended a famous Korean restaurant-Bukchangdong(北倉洞), which is near our company. I like kimchi as much as I like pasta, and here kimchi pot is a must-try. The magazine named kimchi is the top five "World's Healthiest Foods" for being rich in vitamins, aiding digestion, and even possibly reducing cancer growth. Except kimchi pot, we ordered the beef barbecue, bibimbap and seafood pancake. I prefer this BBQ because it is easy to cook and also cheaper. We also enjoyed very much all of free Korean side dishes. Especially, I love the bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and beef), which mixed it up while the stone pot is still hot. It is delicious! The meal price is reasonable and the boss is very friendly. If you also love Korean food, I strongly recommend you to book the restaurant early.

Christmas

Christmas is approaching. Most of streets were decorated with Christmas trees and lights. Since we still have work and school on Christmas Day, so Taiwan may not be the best place to enjoy the holiday. But we surely can still find ways to celebrate Christmas. On Christmas Day, I usually gather with friends to enjoy a festive meal and exchange gifts as we celebrate the holiday. Christmas day is a good time to be with the people who mean most to you. When I was a child, my mother always hanged stockings on our beds to let Santa can leave little presents inside. Also, my father will set up an artificial Christmas tree in home. My brothers and me will place lights and other decorations on the tree. That is really unforgettable time for me.

Blue Monday

Some people often said the word “I hate Monday”. Everyone who goes to work or school hates Monday mornings. I was really not feeling like going to work on Monday. Sometimes I just feel a little bit lazy to start the week with a lot of work to be done after the weekend. It is hard to get up early after a weekend, and I usually wake up late on Monday than on other days. When I saw that it was raining outside, it made me wanted more to take the day off and just work at home if possible. Anyway, I think I should rather be thankful because when Monday comes it means a new day comes again and go into the next weekend. It is a blessing and I must be thankful!

Job Stress Management

In office, where deadlines have to be met, problems have to be solved, clients have to be satisfied and bosses have to be tolerated. Thus stress comes naturally. So how can we deal with stress in the workplace? Stress management in the workplace can start by planning our work well. A healthy lifestyle is also important. Regular exercise and make time for leisure activities can relieve our stress. However, it is possible to manage stress effectively before it becomes a chronic problem. For me, I will usually limit my overtime and take break regularly. Sometimes, I will skip lunch because I am busy at work. But the irregular diet can lead to tiredness and in turn lead to stress. So now, I will leave my work-desk and eat outside. I think break can help me recharge and focus better when I get back. Although stress cannot be avoided, it can be managed.

Eating Outside

Some people prefer to prepare and eat food at home. Other people choose to eat outside.I prefer to eat at restaurants for the following reasons. The main benefit of choosing to go to restaurants is that we can save time. If we eat outside, we can save time going to the supermarket or traditional market to buy the food for cooking a meal. Moreover, we can eat whenever we want. In addition, we can have a variety of choices on food. If we eat the same food everyday, we will feel bored soon. Therefore, we eat outside so we can change our minds as we wish. It is true that there are some advantages to eat at home, and there are some disadvantages to eat outside. However, for singles, it is more convenient for them to eat outside than eating at home. So I prefer to eat at restaurants.

The Instant Noodles

It is very easy to cook the instant noodles immediately while away from home. We can only cook the noodles in the boiling water. At home, I like to cook it as my dinner, because I think the meal is quick and convenient to prepare. I often cook the instant noodles together with eggs and vegetables. It is always easy to be tempted to eat during cool winter. However, it is truly not good for our health if we eat too much instant noodles. Although it is very easy to be cooked but we must take note of the harm may cause to our health. The instant noodles contains unhealthy ingredients, it will lead to CANCER if it is stored in our body system for a long period of time. In order to eat safely and stay healthy, I do not want to take too much anymore!

The Ways to Keep Slim During Winter

Winter is coming. It is really difficult to keep slim during winter. Winter provide a good excuse to eat more and sleep more. The cool weather gave me a good appetite, so I can’t lose weight easily. There are some steps we can take to make sure we continue to lose weight during the winter. First, stay active around the house. While it may be cold outside, there are things we can do inside our home, such as sit-ups and push-ups. Second, maintain a healthy diet. Remember the rule of low fat but high fiber when we are eating. Finally, it is a good way to do regular exercise 3-5 times per week to lose weight, for example, running, swimming or cycling. To sum up, if we put on weight, we must carefully examine our diet and measure the weight at least one time each week. Don't use the winter as an excuse to eat whatever we want.

Spicy Hot Pot

Last Sunday evening after I returned home from school, my friend invited me to ate the spicy hot pot. We went to a popular restaurant-Chan Chi Hot Pot (詹記), is just located in Xinzhuang. And very luckily indeed, we noticed there were not much people waiting outside that day and we were immediately taken to the restaurant to be seated. We were very happy because we love spicy hot pot and knew this place is really good. We ordered the "Yuan-Yang Kuo" (鴛鴦鍋) which half of the pot is spicy hot pot with duck's blood and tofu, and other half is the traditional vegetable hot pot. Each pot also can be refilled with soup and duck's blood free of charge. All in all, Chan Chi Hot Pot is just what people are raving about. The delicious meal really makes me satisfying!

Dealing with People

We have to deal with difficult people in everyday life such as at home, at school, and at work. But we deal with them in different ways. No matter where we go, we will face people who are negative, people who oppose our ideas. For work, I will have difficult coworkers, makers, customers who frequently drive me crazy, so how to deal with the difficult behaviors of people is an art perfecting. However, we are the only animals blessed with intelligence and having the ability to control our emotion. So how can I do that? Sometimes it is hard to get past our own feelings of anger, so I will try to write how I feel in a letter, and then resolve to put my anger aside. After few hours I read the letter, I am surprised at how those feelings have changed. I know it is not easy, otherwise, there wouldn't be difficult people drive me crazy. But I will do my best to improve my EQ. Nowadays businesses recognize that emotional intelligence is essential to their success. In fact, EQ training can helps to improve performance, productivity, and customer relations. Many companies now use EQ tests when they are recruiting new staff. So if you want to get along with people, improve your EQ!

Facebook

In recent years, Facebook has become one of the top social networking websites, it helps us connect and share with friends in our life. It seems to be a good way people keep up with family, friends, classmates and colleagues. Facebook has a lot of advantages but it also has great disadvantages. We have to be careful about what we do on Facebook, so that we don't fall into some traps. For example, the obvious disadvantage is the availability of our personal profile for many people to review. And it has a serious problem for the work efficiency of employee. The staff may waste much working time on Facebook. Thus, if we can avoid these negative aspects, it seems that Facebook will be a constructive social networking website in our life.

How to Keep In Touch With Long-Distance Friends

Time and distance may separate and change friendships. How can I keep in touch with long-distance friends as life becomes very busy after work or college? Here are some ideas to help me show my consideration for my friends, even if they live far away. First of all, just a phone call away. Simply pick up the phone and call whenever you can. Although we may not have the time to pick up the phone everyday to call friends, but just a short 5 minutes call can get you caught up with your friends, and he or she will know you were thinking of them. Second, using the chat online to stay in touch with your friends such as MSN and Skype. Moreover, Facebook is now a popular website. It can help you well connect and share with the people in your life. Third, the great way to keep in touch with friends is planning an annual get together. Keep it at the same time of year so everyone becomes familiar with the trip. However, don’t wait for your friend to make the first move. Who knows how busy she is, or if she is waiting for you. Make it your responsibility.

Finally, there is an interesting difference in use of alarm clock. A morning people don’t need to use the alarm, whereas a night people need to set the multiple alarms. To sum up, staying up late is a bad idea. Early to bed and early to rise, it will makes a person healthy and wealthy.

The Effects of Global Warming

Climate change is a serious and challenging problem we face today. Some effects of extreme weather are already happening. First, ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. Second, rise in sea levels. The Effects of Reading Strategy Instruction

I have learned a lot of reading strategies in our English reading class such as Summarizing the gist, Using context clues, Activate prior knowledge, Mind mapping and so on. These strategies are truly useful for me. Especially for using context clues, it is a good way not only to help me to find the meanings out but also to build up my vocabulary. According to previous studying, I usually encountered unfamiliar words when I read, then I unable to continue reading it. It wastes time if I insist to look those words up in the dictionary. But when I learn to use context clues, I may not even need to use a dictionary because I can guess the meaning of unknown words from the context. However, reading can help me to increase vocabulary, pronounce and grammar, so I will choose something to read that I like, it can actually be interesting and enjoyable. For example, I will try to read English-language newspapers on the Internet. Newspapers are interesting because they are real life and the latest news. To sum up, I am able to use more reading strategies to enhance reading enjoyment. They can fully increase my reading efficiency.

How to Reduce Our Own Carbon Footprint

Our personal carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide that we put into the air when we use electricity, drive a car, and heat or cool the house. Individual effort is especially significant. We can make simple changes in daily behavior to reduce our own carbon footprint. First, walk or bike instead of driving a car. Emissions from cars and trucks contribute to the greenhouse effect. Second, doing recycle and use recycled paper, glass and plastic everywhere. Because they use less energy to manufacture than products made from completely new materials.Third, turn off the heat, air conditioning and lights when you leave the house or go to bed. Finally, plant the trees. Trees naturally offset the greenhouse gases. They take in carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen. To sum up, encouraging more people to do likewise, we can reduce carbon emissions impact on our lives, on environment and on future generations.

The Actions to Reduce Global Warming

Global warming is an important environmental problem today. We have to find ways to reduce it. There are some ways that we can act to lessen the global warming. At home, we can fight global warming by using energy-efficient appliances and unplugging unused appliances. Even when electronic devices are turned off, they use energy also. Next, use the public transportation more. We can take the bus and the subway instead of driving the car. It can reduce to produce the greenhouse gases. In office, use the recycled paper and reduce to print if we can. Consider ourselves whether something is really worth printing out. And we can leave a message at the bottom of our e-mails reminding the reader to consider the environment before printing the e-mail. These small changes can help to make a world of difference. We have to take action against global warming everywhere.

Reading a Book Or Watching a Movie

Do you prefer to read a book first or watching a movie first? I would say both have their advantages but I prefer to read the book first. When I read the book I can create pictures in my mind and then I watch the movie to meet my expectations. With reading, we can use our imagination. We can stop and reread a passage whenever we want. On the other hand, we do not have time to image with a movie, because it hurry past. When I read the book before watching the move, I often find some part of the book is missing from the movie. This is why reading the book first is best if I can. However, I will always enjoy and use films to develop my imagination.

After lunch, we will go to the Osaka Castle. It is a famous landmark and the symbol of Osaka. At blossom season the grounds are beautiful. If you are lucky, you might be catch a sumo tournament, sometimes held in the Osaka Castle Park. Next, we are going too to the Umeda and Namba. Both are the best-known shopping area in Osaka, each full of restaurants and department stories. Many tourists enjoy window-shopping and savoring food along the way. Next day, we will go by JR express trains to the Universal Studios Japan. We would plan to spend a full day there, where most of exciting attractions are found. Above is my rough plan, but the final itinerary may vary from the sample posted here.

Qualities of A Good Employee

A good employee has to possess at least three qualities. The first quality is teamwork. An employee should cooperate to work on a project provided by his or her supervisor. Never hesitate to offer your ideas and suggestions. Have a mutual respect to each other and work very well as a team. The second quality of a good employee is efficiency. Each task provided has the deadline, so how to finish it on time is an important thing. A good time management can increase work efficiency. The third quality is responsibility. It means we have to take our responsibilities seriously to do a good job. For example, when things go wrong, some people will follow their human nature and try to shift the blame to someone else. But for responsible employees, they are not afraid to take responsibility for themselves. To sum up, a good employee has to be cooperative, efficient, and responsible.

My Best Friend

Iris, she is one of my best friends, we have been known each other for twelve years. We had a dinner party last month. I was so expected since this is my first time to see her after she married. We spent a happy evening reminiscing about the past. I can feel her marriage is exceptionally happy. Honestly, I was surprised to hear their marriage news at that time. Because they have been just known each other less than one year, and I supposed she is not the marrying kind. However, they are in love with each other, and they have a strong mutual understanding and attraction. So they considered getting married soon. They get married on January 2010 quickly. Their wedding was wonderful and very impressive. I wish her happy marriage and I hope our friendship will last forever.

A Subway Station

The subway system is a rapid transportation. During rush hour, subways are crowded. The subway station is full of people in a hurry. Passengers crowded the platform. It is like a line of ants because everyone bumps into each other. Passengers are in a hurry to crowd into the coach. You will smell the stink of sweat in hot weather, and you can hear someone speak loud. The subway system can save us a lot of time even though it is crowded at rush hour.

My Favorite Festival

Chinese New Year is one of my favorite festivals. It is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. All the members of a family will hold together to have a big dinner on New Year’s Eve. Of course, our family always has a reunion on that night. All sorts of foods will be cooked by my mother and father at home such as chicken, fish, vegetables, dumpling and hot pot. After dinner, we like to play cards and watch TV together. That night is full of happiness and warmness. We will go to temples at daybreak for good fortune, health and prosperity. Chinese New Year is not just like other festivals, it is deeply rooted in Chinese culture and traditions.

Coffee

Most of people like to start a day with a hot cup of coffee. Expresso, Macchiato, Long Black, Latte and Cappuccino are some sorts of coffee. Unknowingly, I also need to drink a cup of coffee at least per day. I always free to drink coffee when I have to work overtime. Coffee is also necessary for my exams, because it can make me more alert and energetic to study. Some people said that drinking the right quantity of coffee a day can benefit you. Coffee contains a compound called “Caffeine” which is considered to boost our energy. I think that is why I would love coffee so much.

My 2010 New Year Resolutions

With the New Year fast approaching, I am probably thinking about my 2010 resolutions. First, I would like to make a healthier lifestyle and balanced diet. I think I need to exercise more, so I want to ride the bike when I have free time on Saturday morning. Besides, make a small change in my diet. I wish I could give up drinking coffee. Maybe green tea is a good substitute for coffee. Furthermore, eating more fruits and vegetables is also important for me. However, I will start to make efforts at regular exercise and well-balanced diet. Second, I would like to travel abroad. I plan to take an individual travel to the Bangkok. So the primary thing is to improve my English skill from now on. And I will start to search the corresponding tour guides. All in all, I will do my best to achieve them whatever there are many difficulties may be.

Free time

Since I returned to be a student at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, I need to go to school on weekends, so I don’t have too much free time anymore. When I have free time after work I might watch TV and surf Internet, then I will spend some time to preparing my assignments. Occasionally, I like to go to the movies and window shopping with my friends when I take a vacation. I also enjoy do nothing and sleeping whole day to relax. Recently, I expect that I will have more free time during a coming winter vacation, so I am planning a journey with my family. I wish I can achieve my plan smoothly.

The Advantage of Living in the Countryside

Growing up in the countryside can make a person cheerful and healthful. First, the countryside is no serious environmental pollution, so we can breathe fresh air all the time. For example, there are many factories in the city will discharge poisonous waste to pollute our environment. Second, it is better to keep a big dog in the countryside than a city. For instance, we usually can offer a large space or yard for a dog to run. It seems unlikely to allow a dog to run around in a small apartment. Third, we can easily eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit everyday. For example, our neighbors grow a lot of different vegetables, so they might give fresh vegetables to us when they have a good harvest. Finally, it is a good chance to save money. The daily expense on food and transportation in the countryside is lower than the spending in a city. In summary, there are four advantages which make me feel like to live in the countryside.

Steve Jobs' Stanford Speech

The whole speech included three stories delivered by Steve Jobs, a CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, in 2005. There are many people who have been inspired by his speech. Undoubtedly, it has also made a deep impression on me. Even thought he has faced many difficulties in his life, but he still had a great passion toward it. He convinced people that the only thing to keep him going on was that he loved what he did. ‘You’ve got to find what you love,’ Jobs said. Never be over proud and always be desirous of learning, be hungry for knowledge and be humble, which are my opinions on the words “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”. If we keep these words in our mind and apply the meaning to our life. It would make our life more meaningful. So, I will keep it in my mind, and I will always wish that to myself.

Global Warming

Global warming means increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s near surface. It is a natural phenomenon and it was happening rapidly. Global warming primarily is the effect of greenhouse effect. Due to the global warming, temperature in the winter will increase more. The water will evaporate more quickly from the ground. Consequently, some areas will become drier than the previous. With changes in climate around the world, there will be more of natural calamities such as floods, droughts, cyclones, and volcanoes. For these reasons, people are more aware about this matter recently. We can also fight against global warming by ourselves. For example, using recycled paper as this will save the trees. Also, start to carry own shopping bag while shopping to avoid waste plastic bags. However, global warming is true and important. Everyone is responsible to preserve the environment of the Earth.

The Ways to Lose Weight – Part 2

Therefore, when you eat vegetables they can make you satiate as well. So you will not be eating other foods in high calories. Third, another way that can help you lose weight is to drink water before your meals. Drinking water will help you eat less during the meal, and it can curb your appetite at the same time.
